Okay so this is a little strong I know but let’s face it the wii has got some serious competition, even Sony’s new motion sensitive tech doesn’t compete with this. For those of you not sure what I’m talking about let me clear this up. Microsoft were nice enough to finally clarify what they meant in an earlier press release where they said “We will announce something at E3 that will revolutionize gaming.” Now most people, myself included, dismissed this as hype over something impressive but hardly revolutionary.
Shockingly enough this was an understatement, Microsoft announced something they call project Natal. It’s a camera with 3D recognition allowing the gamer to interact with the game without using controllers. The camera picks up when you move forward, throw a punch and even squeeze your finger to fire a gun. As well as this it’s not just your hands the camera picks up on it’s your entire body, giving impressive usage for fighting and sport games. Now this obviously means you have more freedom with game play than on the current motion sensitive king console, the wii.
However Microsoft took this thing further! How can that be I hear you ask well the beautiful little gadget is also fitted with face and voice recognition software allowing users to automatically sign in to their console gamer tag because the camera recognizes you. The voice recognition software also allows you to interact with characters in game by talking. This nifty little gadget isn’t just for your games either the demo shows it being used in the media centre, messaging service and with your avatar. All these add-ons mean that Microsoft have not only taken motion sensitive gaming and improved it far beyond wii standards but they have also changed the way you interact with everything on your console, it looks set to be the beginning of a new way to play games and even use your console. Don’t just take my word for it check out the demo below, no word has been given about release dates but I’d guess Christmas so start being nice because Santa probably on has a limited stock.
