Updates!

Epic announced that GOW 2 has achieved an amazing 5 million sales worldwide, meaning that the entire Gears of war franchise has now achieved over 11million sales. To celebrate this momentous achievement Epic announced some extra game content for their successful franchise.

As well as this Epic announced that they will be releasing a special edition of the game that will include all downloadable content to date. This special edition game is being called “All fronts collection” I don’t know why but it is. Included in this special edition game is a game add on called “dark corners”, which will also be available on Xbox marketplace for 1600 MS points, this add on will include seven new multiplayer maps and an added campaign chapter. The chapter is called “Road to Ruin” apparently Epic are big on labeling things, this new chapter was deleted from GOW 2 before release but now Epic are looking to celebrate their throwing it in there. I’ll bet the chance to make money without extra work never even entered their minds.

The Ghostbusters game, a game already appearing in hundreds of news articles with praises and bad news alike has been buzzing for ages. A short while ago I wrote an update mentioning how Atari had announced the game was set for release. Well that’s still going to happen but now the game developers Atari have agreed a deal with Sony, to allow them to help develop and release the game on 19th of June.

However this means that for now Ghostbusters is a PS3 exclusive game. Atari have maintained the right to publish the game to other consoles at a later date but whether or not they will is yet to be seen. For now Xbox owners will just have to keep dreaming about Ghost busting is actually like, as well as thinking up new names for their proton packs …mine was going to be Sheila.

Wolverine: origins has stunned gamers and actually broken the curse of the movie release game, not only that but it beat of the rest of it’s competition and claimed second place in the game chart. It came second to wii fit, which makes sense as everyone wants to get fit but not leave there house you can’t fault Nintendo’s genius there.

The game has even been referred to by one fan boy as “the first movie license game to be better than the movie.”  it seems that no matter what you do with a character like Wolverine it’s set for gold.

Capcom have announced that although they are releasing marvel vs.. Capcom 2 on Xbla they have no intentions to release a 3rd. Capcom have said one of the major reasons is trying to negotiate the license as the Marvel title and it’s associated parties has been put about recently.

By releasing the old Xbox game on arcade they hope to ignite gamers excitement for the game and maybe gain some momentum for a possible 3rd. As it stands right now however there doesn’t seem to be any plans for a 3rd, the fate of the game does truly rest in the hands of its gamers.

Capcom have announced however they were thinking about releasing the game with an themed joystick due to the success of the Madcatz street fighter IV sticks, so at least something will come of this.

A game legend was feared dead today as the developer of Duke Nukem Forever, 3D Realms, was shut down. The reason being funds, a common problem especially in today’s financial climate, which leaves Duke without a developer.

3D had been in cahoots with Take-Two but they have said this was purely a publishing arrangement and so they were unable to help fund the project. Duke Nukem Forever was supposedly far enough along development to release game play footage and Take-Two have said they retain the publishing rights. The real question is will Duke Nukem be made or will it fall into oblivion like so many other games.

Deadpool Game

200px-Deadpool

The character that most people know from the Marvel comics, Deadpool and wolverine, is one of the many unsung Marvel anti-heroes with a strong fan base. The classic anti hero who now even has a role in the new wolverine movie is being considered for his own game by the producers of Wolverine: origins the game.

The smart mouth mercenary is loved by the self proclaimed fan boys of Raven software. An interesting choice as to date he hasn’t actually featured in any other marvel games than the ultimate marvel alliance one, as well as being recently announced for two, and x-men legends. In both cases Deadpool was hardly a main character and so it warrants the question why now?

The guys at Raven said they loved his “smart assed attitude” and they were “huge fans of Deadpool” making him the next obvious choice for a game. The guys from Raven continued to say that the Deadpool character in the recent x-men movie was good but not exactly the first choice they would have made. When asked about making their own Deadpool game the guys said they would keep the character 100% authentic to the comics. 382px-Deadpool11

The major question here however is can Deadpool pull off his own game? A fun character certainly and would be interesting to play, regarding his high tech weaponry and sword play, he would be like a happy go luck wolverine that found batman’s utility belt. Is that enough to have his own game? the character Deadpool had been given his own comic title that featured him as the main character but unfortunately only made it to issue #69.

Does this250px-DeadpoolYellowBoxes mean the Deadpool lacks the strength to gain interest and sales in his own game, personally I don’t think so. Deadpool is a fun character who could deliver hours of endless fun and seeing that he is one of the few comic characters to know he is actually in a comic it would be funny to this transferred to a game.

The only problem holding Raven have is trying to show that Deadpool is worthy to hold his own game title and if they can come up with a strong enough storyline to support it things should work out.  Not a game to be taken too seriously however I would imagine it being a lot like the recent Matt Hazzard game, fun game play filled with tons of wise cracks and parody. At the very least a Deadpool game would be worth buying just to give a break from hardcore gaming. At this point it’s no guarantee the game is actually going to be made but if the people at Raven have their way a Deadpool game will be quick on the heels of Wolverine.

Slash or Scratch?

image.php

That’s right kids it’s time to forget about guns and other cool weaponry as we pull out the claws and go feral. It’s time for Wolverine, everyone knows this character and I believe in some way everyone loves him. Wolverine is one of the better known Marvel heroes not just because of the x-men but because there’s something amazing about the character that makes you say wow. A hit in the x-men movies, and often the main focus point of the movies, he is not someone to be taken lightly. The latest x-men instalment is out already and the game is set for release in May 1st, the major question however is what can we expect?

From the look of these shots, I guess we can expect lots of airtime.

wolv wolv2 wolv3 The game, a direct release from the movie, looks as though it has already followed in Hollywood’s footsteps and delivered cinematic effects, I mean seriously look at those graphics they’re the reason HD gaming was invented. Is this enough however? As I’m sure everyone knows movie release games often have a tendency to show a lot of flash and fail on the game play. It’s common practice for gamers in the know to approach the games of a movie release with the same caution as approaching someone with small pox. That being said I approached this game with the same cynical views but it’s starting to look like a winner.

Gamepro already said that this game was “the most authentic ever seen outside of his comic-book origins.” so that needs to count for something right? The game mentions the use of features such as feral instincts, mutagens and feral senses oh and did I mention the combat system was an unreal engine? How well this means the game is going to work out is still to be seen, the story line should at least be bearable seeing as it’s based on the movie so at least there’s one aspect not to worry about. When you see the screenshots, think of the movie and hear it’s the most authentic wolverine character representation outside of the comics the game does get you a little excited.

golem

Especially when you see shots like this, wolverine in another David versus Goliath something that helps get any gamers heart pumping and the victory so much sweeter. From what has been released about the game so far it does look to stand out from the rest but is that impressive considering the last wolverine games?

With no demos on Xbox live it makes one wonder why it is Raven are keeping this game so secretive before the launch. It could be because the game is so immense that they want to keep the gamers waiting to make the release all the more spectacular. Or maybe it’s because playing a demo could reveal a repetitive combat function and shallow game play lacking enough depth to keep any gamer interested for more than a couple of minutes. Either way the game hardly looks set to set the gaming world on fire but at least it’ll shake things up a little if it’s good. If you’re an x-men fan or if you enjoy fighting action/adventure games then I’d consider it for purchase but otherwise it wouldn’t hurt to wait and see the reviews first.
